New Zealand's Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Consuls-General currently posted in the Asia region will be gathering in Auckland and Wellington in early May. This biennial Heads of Mission meeting brings our 14 senior diplomats in Asia together for three days of strategy planning and networking with key foreign policy stakeholders.
In 2007, the government released a White Paper called Our Future With Asia, which identified the need for New Zealand to raise the tempo of our engagement with Asia. The 2008 Heads of Mission meeting will discuss ways to turn the White Paper's overall framework in to working strategies for New Zealand's diplomacy in Asia.
The meeting will be held in Wellington 6-7 May, followed by an Asia Snapshot Seminar in Auckland on 9 May. Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, this seminar will offer presentations from veteran diplomats who have on the ground experience, along with experts from the Ministry and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
Informative ‘snapshot’ presentations include:
Morning tea and a working style lunch will be included
