UK Foreign and Defence Secretaries visit New Zealand

UK Foreign Secretary William Hague and Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox, accompanied by UK Chief of Defence General Sir David Richards, visited New Zealand during January 20-21, 2011. The visitors were hosted in Auckland by Foreign Minister Murray McCully and Defence Minister Dr Wayne Mapp. The visit reinforced New Zealand’s close and long-standing relationship with the UK.

Following a powhiri on arrival at Whenuapai airbase, the visitors laid a wreath at the Auckland Cenotaph and were formally welcomed at a reception hosted by Minister McCully at the Maritime Museum, with Auckland-based MPs and civic leaders in attendance. The following day, respective ministers held bilateral talks and all four Ministers continued discussions over a working lunch.
