Celebrating 65 years of NZ - Russian Federation diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the Russian Federation

A recital of Russian songs and a ministerial reception marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the Russian Federation on 4 November in Wellington.

The recital was attended by members of the New Zealand diplomatic community, and Wellington’s local Russian community.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral recital was performed by Joanna Heslop, a former soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre’s Academy of Young Singers, St Petersburg, and now a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade official.  Renowned pianist Richard Mapp accompanied.

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully hosted a reception at Parliament following the recital, at which he emphasised the shared desire between New Zealand and Russia for strengthened bilateral relations, including closer economic links and agriculture cooperation.

Russian Ambassador to New Zealand, Andrey Tatarinov was also present and spoke warmly of the relationship between the two countries.
