Travel advisory risk levels - destinations with high risk

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade provides advice on security risks in several destinations. This advice is based on information from a number of sources. It reflects risks, and our assessment of what these might mean for New Zealanders. Our assessment may also take account of the actions local authorities are taking to minimise the risk, and our ability to provide you with assistance.

High risk destinations where nonessential travel, including tourist travel, should be deferred

Algeria

Angola

Burundi - Bujumbura

Central African Republic (except for border with Chad and Cameroon - see Extreme risk)

China - Lhasa, Tibet

Colombia - Bogota

Congo

Georgia - Except regions of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and the Pankisi Gorge north of Akhmeta (Extreme Risk).

India - Bihar and Jharkhand.

Indonesia - Most of Indonesia, (including Bali, Batam and Bintan), excluding Maluku province (Extreme Risk) and Central Sulawesi province (Extreme Risk).

Iran - Avoid border areas with Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Jordan - Border areas with Israel and Iraq.

Kenya

Lebanon - Except for Southern Lebanon (south of the Litani River) and Palestinian refuge camps (Extreme Risk).

Libya - Areas bordering Chad, Niger and Sudan.

Liberia

Malaysia - coastal areas and offshore Islands and dive sites remote from the main towns of eastern Sabah (from Kudat in the North and around the coast to Tawau).

Nigeria - Piracy and armed robbery against ships in Nigerian waters, rivers and harbours.

Rwanda

Saudi Arabia

Sudan - Except for Eastern and Southern Sudan and Chadian border with Darfur.

Sri Lanka - Except Northern and Eastern areas.

Thailand - Southern provinces of Narathiwat, Songkhla, Yala and Pattani .

Tajikistan
