Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke with two leaders from the United States Administration this morning: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien.
They discussed their countries’ vital strategic partnership, their respective domestic responses to COVID-19, and welcomed the bilateral cooperation on the important issue of repatriating nationals stranded offshore.
Noting the current geostrategic environment, they discussed significant developments in the Indo-Pacific region – including the important work being done by major partners of the Pacific Islands region to bolster its pandemic preparedness and response.
They also noted the importance of the digital economy to both countries, and the need to cooperate closely including in the context of responding to COVID-19.
