Mark Sinclair has had wide experience in the Ministry. Early in his career he had postings in Japan and Solomon Islands before being seconded to DPMC as foreign policy adviser. After a posting in Canberra, Mark served in Australia Division. He has also led a range of HR and organisational development issues in Personnel Division and as head of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s office.

Mark served in a series of trade roles in Geneva, as Director of the Trade Negotiations Division and as Chief Negotiator for the Trans Pacific Partnership before being posted to Japan as Ambassador. After a brief period as Ambassador for Climate Change, Mark was assigned to Mexico as Ambassador.

He returned to New Zealand as Deputy Secretary, Americas and Asia in early 2020. Mark was Chief Negotiator for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework from late 2022 to 2024.
