Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke on 30 April with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mahmood Qureshi.
The Ministers spoke about their governments’ respective approaches to COVID-19. They noted the important role that debt relief can play in assisting developing countries to navigate the pandemic, and the significant international initiatives being worked on in this regard.
The two Ministers discussed the importance of cross-cultural and inter-faith tolerance at times of international crisis, with Minister Qureshi commending New Zealand’s response to the March 15 2019 attacks in Christchurch.
The two Ministers noted the small community of Pakistanis in New Zealand and New Zealanders in Pakistan and agreed to give due attention to their welfare.
