Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke on 30 April with Tuvalu’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Simon Kofe.
The Ministers discussed their countries respective responses to COVID-19 and the challenges the virus posed for the Pacific region.
They noted their support for the establishment of the Pacific Islands Forum Pacific Humanitarian Pathway as a mechanism to support the accessibility and movement of humanitarian and other assistance between Member States and from development partners.
The Ministers also noted the likely economic consequences of COVID-19 for the region, including on key industries such as tourism and fisheries.
Minister Peters affirmed New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to assist Pacific countries to prepare for and respond to the virus.
