New Zealand's High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea
Tony Fautua was appointed New Zealand High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea in April 2014.
Tony is a career diplomat. Before his appointment in PNG, Tony served as New Zealand’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste and assisted in the successful completion of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) mandate and overseeing the final deployments of the New Zealand Defence Force personnel who were part of the International Stabilisation Force.
He started at the Ministry in 1994 and has worked on a wide range of issues, including the peace process in Bougainville and representing New Zealand in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) as Deputy Senior Official.
Previous postings include New Zealand’s diplomatic missions in Washington DC, Papua New Guinea (Bougainville), Niue and New York.
Tony attended the University of Canterbury in New Zealand where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Commerce (Hons).
Tony is married to Ina and they have a son, Reuben.
