El Salvador/Nicaragua: 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 has struck off the coast of El Salvador on 24 November 2016. A tsunami threat message has been issued for parts of El Salvador, and Nicaragua. Tsunami threat messages are issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (external link).
If you are in the affected area or areas potentially affected by the tsunami you should follow the advice of the local authorities, including any tsunami evacuation orders. Please also keep your family back in New Zealand informed of your wellbeing. We also recommend that you stay informed of developments by monitoring local media.
