Interactive dialogue with the special rapporteur on Summary Executions - 41st Session of the Human Rights Council

Ministry Statements & Speeches:

Statement delivered by Jillian Dempster, Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations at Geneva, Switzerland, 26 June 2019

New Zealand is deeply troubled by the findings of the Special Rapporteur in her report.

New Zealand continues to condemn in the strongest possible terms the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Those responsible must be held to account.

Many questions remain unanswered and New Zealand urges Saudi Arabia to provide all the information available and to fully cooperate with all investigations into the killing, including assisting in identifying the location of Mr Khashoggi’s remains to allow closure for his family.

We urge Saudi Arabia to take concrete steps to protect all journalists and to uphold the right to freedom of expression in the Kingdom and around the world.
