New Zealand is hosting the 2nd CPTPP Commission and associated Committee meetings, 7-9 October, in Auckland.
Following the first Commission meeting in Japan in January, the Auckland meetings will bring into operation the main institutional mechanisms of the Agreement and set the course for the CPTPP’s forward work programme over the coming year.
Twelve of the 18 Committees established under the CPTPP, including those covering trade in goods, technical barriers to trade, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), state owned enterprises (SOEs), environment and labour, will meet in Auckland.
Alongside these meetings, there will be also be a forum on the topic of Oceans and the Marine Environment to provide an opportunity for interested civil society groups, including non-governmental organisations, the scientific community, local iwi and business and local government to have input on matters relevant to this aspect of the work of the Environment Committee.
There will also be a workshop to enable dialogue with SMEs on ways in which trade agreements can address issues relevant to SME engagement in trade.
Mexico will host the next set of CPTPP meetings in 2020.
