Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke this morning with France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to discuss the bilateral relationship and, in particular, both countries’ cooperation in response to COVID19.
The Ministers discussed the situation of the high number of French citizens in New Zealand as well as their needs and requests with respect to repatriation in light of COVID19-related developments.
The Ministers also discussed New Zealand’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus domestically and the policy considerations behind New Zealand’s current alert level 4 setting.
The Ministers undertook to ensure that both countries continued to remain in close contact, including with respect to any amendments to current policy settings.
