Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke yesterday with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

They discussed the profound challenges to, and responses of, the European Union and New Zealand related to COVID-19.

They spoke positively about the EU and New Zealand’s cooperation, including on the repatriation of citizens back to their home countries, as well as cooperation in the Pacific.

Some of the longer-term economic impacts of COVID-19 were discussed, including to the important tourism industries across many EU member states and New Zealand.

The importance of the free trade agreement between the European Union and New Zealand, currently being negotiated, was also highlighted.
