The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Annual Report 2016-17 was presented to Parliament on 18 October 2017.
It showcases how we acted in the world to make New Zealanders safer and more prosperous in the last year.
It details the progress we made against our seven strategic objectives and provides a summary and breakdown of our financial performance. It also contains a report on our official development assistance, and brings data to life through a range of case studies.
The annual report highlights our work across a wide range of areas, including New Zealand’s successful completion of a two-year term on the United Nations Security Council in December 2016. It also details how we helped get humanitarian access to Syria, establish a Marine Protected Area in the Ross Sea Region and keep the playing field level for New Zealand wine exporters. The report includes our role in building a China-capable public sector; marking the end of a successful 14-year peace mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI); supporting New Zealanders during the Manchester Arena attack; and working with our government partners to respond to the Kaikoura earthquake.
This year, the Ministry has taken a new approach to the annual report. Information is presented in a more dynamic way and includes stakeholder quotes, key statistics and infographics, which outline the Ministry’s role and the impact on New Zealanders.
