Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke today with Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister James Marape.
They discussed their two countries respective domestic responses to COVID-19 and agreed to stay in close contact to share information and exchange experiences with combatting the virus.
Prime Minister Marape acknowledged the range of support New Zealand had provided to Papua New Guinea towards its preparedness and response to COVID-19. Minister Peters affirmed that New Zealand was working actively to ensure that Papua New Guineans in New Zealand were supported during this time.
It was agreed that, notwithstanding the challenges posed by COVID-19, the two countries would continue to work together to ensure that New Zealand’s aid programme in Papua New Guinea sustained momentum and impact.
