Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters attended the Special Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting on 7 April to consider and discuss the establishment of a Pacific Humanitarian Pathway for COVID-19. This is the first time Forum Foreign Ministers have met in a virtual setting.
Minister Peters noted that there was clear value in establishing the Pathway to identify and address political, policy, or legal barriers to the movement of effective humanitarian and other assistance to countries in need.
Together, Forum Ministers recognised the unprecedented threat that COVID-19 poses to the Pacific and the need for the entire region to come together to face the common challenges posed by the global pandemic.
