Minister of Foreign Affairs Nanaia Mahuta and United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken affirmed the close partnership between the two countries when they spoke today.
Minister Mahuta welcomed President Biden’s and Secretary Blinken’s early commitments to revitalise United States’ leadership on issues of global importance.
The Minister and the Secretary agreed to work together to strengthen multilateral institutions, promote democratic values and human rights, fight climate change, support the Pacific Islands and address the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Mahuta also welcomed United States’ support for New Zealand’s hosting of APEC this year.
New Zealand looks forward to building on both countries’ long-standing friendship as partners in a secure, prosperous and sustainable Indo-Pacific.
