Foreign Minister Mahuta’s introductory phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister

News:

New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta had an introductory phone call this afternoon with Chinese Foreign Minister, State Councillor Wang Yi.

Minister Mahuta and State Councillor Wang discussed the entirety of the bilateral relationship, which is one of New Zealand’s most important. They agreed it was in very good shape.

They also discussed both countries’ COVID-19 pandemic response, and confirmed their commitment to the rules-based multilateral trading system and regional economic integration.

Minister Mahuta welcomed China’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2060.  Ministers welcomed yesterday’s Foreign Affairs Consultations between officials and noted the ongoing programme of cooperation between China and New Zealand on a range of trade and regional issues.
