Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke yesterday with Samoa’s Prime Minister Tuila’epa Sailele Malielegaoi to discuss the two countries preparedness and response efforts to COVID-19.

Mr Peters affirmed New Zealand’s interest in working closely with Pacific Island countries to prepare for the impact of the virus.

The two Ministers acknowledged the likely long term economic impact of the global pandemic and the challenges for the Pacific Islands region.

The Ministers expressed thanks for cooperation to date, including on the support provided to Samoan nationals in New Zealand.
