News:
Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters received a call from Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi last night (4 June).
The Ministers underlined the importance of the bilateral relationship between New Zealand and Japan at this challenging time, and discussed their countries’ COVID-19 responses and the need for global and regional cooperation in this regard.
They discussed both countries’ desire to re-open travel between Japan and New Zealand when it is safe to do so in the COVID-19 context.
Minister Motegi proposed that such travel could begin in due course with essential personnel - an idea that Minister Peters said New Zealand would consider.
The two Ministers agreed that officials should have further discussions on these travel- related issues.
