On 6 August 2021 Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Nanaia Mahuta had an introductory call with Teodoro Locsin Jr., Philippines Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
They acknowledged the 55 years of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the Philippines underpinned by strong people-to-people connections.
Minister Mahuta and Secretary Locsin discussed the ongoing challenges in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as regional issues affecting ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific.
They spoke of New Zealand’s APEC host year focus on supporting an inclusive economic recovery and takes into account indigenous issues.
