While in Berlin the Prime Minister met with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the two discussed a range of key regional and international security challenges, and shared concerns about challenges to global institutions and rising protectionism.
“Germany’s leadership has been vital in helping Europe, and indeed the world, weather the storms of the past decade,” said Jacinda Ardern.
Chancellor Merkel also reconfirmed Germany’s support for the free trade agreement between the European Union and New Zealand, negotiations for which are now under way.
Following her meeting with the Chancellor, the Prime Minister spoke at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation about New Zealand’s approach to progressive and inclusive growth (external link)(external link) and participated in a discussion with Lars Klingbeil, General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
