Death and bereavement

The New Zealand High Commission Canberra is often involved when the death of a New Zealand citizen in Australia happens.

Finding next of kin

When the death of a New Zealand citizen in Australia happens, the local authorities will often approach the New Zealand High Commission to find the next of kin (relatives, family or whanau) in New Zealand, if they are unable to find a next of kin in Australia.

Once the next of kin has been found, New Zealand Police will be asked to notify them in person.
