Consular and Visits 2025 Adviser

The New Zealand High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a motivated and flexible professional to join our small, dynamic and diverse team during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. New Zealand will also commemorate 50 years of Dialogue Partnership with ASEAN in 2025.

This is a 12 month, full-time fixed-term role. We envisage 50% of the role will be consular work and 50% will be ASEAN events related work including assisting with logistics, briefings, social media and assisting delegations on the ground.

Consular tasks will include providing advice and assistance to New Zealanders in distress in Malaysia and Brunei as well as providing notarial and other services at the High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

You will have well developed planning and organisation skills, including an ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work under pressure. You will also be able to work autonomously and within guidelines, demonstrating use of sound judgement. You will have a strong client and team focus and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people. You will demonstrate excellent English writing and communication skills, high levels of resilience and an ability to multitask. Having studied or worked in New Zealand and/or an Embassy environment will be advantages.

The salary for this position starts at RM 6,500/month, negotiable dependent on skills and experience.

Team Administrator Maintenance

The New Zealand High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a motivated facilities professional to join our administration team in 2025. 

This is a permanent, full-time role. Key tasks will include: 

  • managing the maintenance requirements of the High Commission offices and Official Residence including implementation of forward maintenance schedules;
  • obtaining quotations for maintenance work and overseeing contractors; 
  • assisting the administration manager with staff housing;
  • overseeing the purchase of furniture, office equipment and vehicles; 
  • maintaining asset and hazard registers; and 
  • ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. 

Qualifications and experience:

  • The successful candidate will hold a relevant tertiary or technical qualification. 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Bahasa Melayu. 
  • Familiarity with asset management systems and databases;
  • Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints and electrical schematics;
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations;
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and respond effectively to emergency and unexpected situations;
  • Attention to detail and ability to track maintenance schedules and tasks. 

The salary for this position starts at RM 4,000/month (RM 52,000 p.a. inclusive of 13th month bonus), negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
