Consultations with Cook Islands Government

News:

The New Zealand Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bede Corry, visited Rarotonga on 27 January after initiating formal consultations with the Cook Islands Government.

The consultations were the first significant meeting between the two governments this year, with 2025 marking the 60th anniversary of the Cook Islands self-government in free association with New Zealand.

The consultations were an opportunity for New Zealand to underline the principles and mutual obligations underpinning the unique and special relationship between New Zealand and the Cook Islands, including partnership, consultation, shared values and interests, and New Zealand’s foundational role in support of Cook Islands’ defence and security.
