Negotiations on Trade in Services

Trade in services refers to the sale and delivery of an intangible product. It includes sectors such as tourism, education, professional services and digital services. In 2022 New Zealand and China committed to further negotiations aimed at updating the rules in the Trade in Services chapter. The chapter text and associated schedules are available here.

In June 2024, Minister for Trade Todd McClay and China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao marked the launch(external link) of Negotiations on the Services Chapter of the NZ-China Free Trade Agreement. We are keen to hear from anyone with an interest in providing feedback on services trade with China to inform the negotiation, including Māori, civil society, and businesses or individuals currently trading into the Chinese market or those with an interest in doing so in the future.

You can provide your views on services trade with China at: ChinaFTAServices@mfat.govt.nz

We would welcome your views on issues and priorities for services trade with China to inform the negotiation. Please provide your views by Friday 26 July, although we will be open to receiving feedback throughout the process.
