Plenary Session Two: Next steps to increasing renewable energy generation and mitigating climate change

Chief Executive of Pacific Cooperation Foundation, Mac Leauanae, introduces Dr. Mike Allen to facilitate the session.

Head of Loans & Specialised Finance at ANZ New Zealand Ltd, Patrick Brockie, reports on discussions from his session which highlighted that there are a number of opportunities for partnerships with private sector to achieve renewable energy targets and the importance of sharing good practice of contracts, tenders and transparency on investor returns.

Resident Representative Papua New Guinea at the International Finance Corporation, Gavin Murray, also reports on considerations from his session.  While he states that there are a number of challenges to access, particularly in Melanesia, Pacific countries have made progress in identifying energy priorities and achieving collaboration across different groups. 

Senior Energy Specialist in the Pacific Division at the Asian Development Bank, Anthony Maxwell, discusses how his session talked about how important effective grid planning  regulatory reform and renewable energy technology are to the achievement of making renewable energy sustainable. 

CEO of Vector Limited, Simon MacKenzie, reports on how his session talking about demand of renewable energy and regulatory reform keeping pace with the growth of customer confidence. 

Director for Asia, Central Asia, Middle East/Gulf & Pacific, Directorate-General for International Cooperation & Development, Pierre Amilhat, talks about how his session emphasised the vision to think laterally to enable results to be up-scaled and replicated to other countries. 

Deputy Director General of the Asian Development Bank, James Lynch, emphasises how much of a priority renewable energy is to the ADB and that collaboration is key to achieving energy targets.
