Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke on 15 April with Solomon Islands’ Foreign Minister Jeremiah Manele to discuss the two countries’ responses to COVID-19 and the impact of Tropical Cyclone Harold.
Minister Peters registered New Zealand’s interest in co-ordinating closely with Pacific Island countries, including Solomon Islands, to manage the impact of the virus.
The Ministers agreed that the two countries would continue to work together to ensure that New Zealand’s aid programme in Solomon Islands remained relevant in the COVID-19 context.
Minister Peters affirmed that New Zealand was working actively to support Solomon Islands’ seasonal workers and students in New Zealand while the country was in lockdown.
