New Zealand is currently negotiating an Agreement on Trade in Essential Supplies with Singapore

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is seeking feedback on a proposed Agreement on Trade in Essential Supplies with Singapore.

The Agreement on Trade in Essential supplies builds on existing supply chain arrangements with Singapore and is intended to maintain trade between our two countries in essential goods during a crisis.

This new Agreement will include binding provisions that would, among other things, prevent both governments from imposing export restrictions on an agreed list of goods. This will be a negotiated list covering essential goods from both New Zealand and Singapore. The Agreement would not undermine or cut across commercial relationships.

Negotiations are expected to commence in November and run through 2025. For more information on how to submit your views, please click here.

We also organise public meetings where New Zealanders can meet us in person and discuss our trade agreements. A large portion of each meeting is set aside for Q&A and views expressed are reported to Ministers for their consideration.

These meetings are advertised through email, our website, and Facebook and X accounts. If you are interested in attending future events and would like to be added to the mailing list, let us know at FTA_Outreach@mfat.govt.nz.
