Human Rights Council 46th Session of the Universal Periodic Review – Norway

Ministry Statements & Speeches:

Delivered by Permanent Representative Lucy Duncan.

Mr President,

We warmly welcome the delegation from Norway.

We welcome Norway’s progress in developing an ‘action plan for equality for people with disabilities’, and mechanisms to support the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

New Zealand recommends that Norway:

  1. Continue to strengthen legislative and policy measures to address all forms of sexual and gender-based violence
  2. Adopt a legal definition of rape in the Penal Code that places the absence of consent at its centre, and
  3. Continue progress towards enhancing the legal framework on Sami land, fishing and reindeer rights, ensuring in particular that fishing rights are recognized by law.

We thank the delegation for their participation today and wish them a successful review.

Thank you Mr President.
