Our relationship with Pakistan
New Zealand’s relationship with Pakistan is warm and longstanding. Our bilateral cooperation is centered on our shared membership in a number of important international organisations, including the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and the Commonwealth, as well as regional fora such as the ASEAN Regional Forum.
Ashraf Choudhary became New Zealand’s first Pakistan-born MP when he took office in 2002. New Zealand and Pakistan also have strong sporting ties in cricket and regularly play each other in international competition.
