Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke to Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Seri Hishammuddin Hussein on 5 May.
Minister Peters congratulated Minister Hishammuddin on his recent appointment to the Foreign Affairs portfolio, and said he looked forward to working together to advance the New Zealand/Malaysia relationship.
The two Ministers exchanged views on the COVID-19 pandemic, including their countries’ respective approaches to the gradual relaxation of lockdown conditions.
The Ministers discussed foreign relations in the post-COVID world, and the importance of building the influence and effectiveness of regional, intergovernmental and multilateral institutions such as the Commonwealth and APEC.
