Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke on 5 May with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Dr Naledi Pandor to discuss the challenges and responses of their countries with respect to COVID-19, as well as a range of bilateral and multilateral issues.
The two Ministers discussed the pressing challenges faced by nationals in each other’s countries seeking to return home.
They expressed gratitude for the cooperation received to date, as well as undertaking for the two governments to work closely together to try and assist with future repatriation efforts.
New Zealand commended the leadership role that South Africa was playing regionally in the context of the African Union and discussed developments within the UN Security Council, of which South Africa is currently an elected member.
