Human Rights Council: 43rd Session of the Universal Periodic Review, France

Ministry Statements & Speeches:

Delivered by Permanent Representative Lucy Duncan.

Mr President,

New Zealand warmly welcomes the delegation from France. We wish to commend France’s continued efforts to safeguard human rights including the rights of women and LGBTQI+ persons, and human rights defenders, and to promote freedom of expression and opinion.

We recommend that France:

  1. Consider increasing resources to assist unaccompanied children refugees or asylum seekers to ensure effective protection and access to resources, including health and education.
  2. Adopt and implement a strategy for Persons with Disabilities including effective action plans to improve their access to education, health care, employment and public infrastructure.
  3. Mobilise sufficient funding and human resources in order to effectively combat all forms of trafficking and contemporary exploitation, both online and offline.

We wish France every success in its review.

Thank you Mr. President
