It is with profound sadness that we learnt that 49 people have lost their lives in an act of terrorism at two Christchurch mosques today. More than 20 are also seriously injured in Christchurch hospital.
New Zealand mourns and grieves this terrorist attack on a core community in our country.
The people who carried out these acts have extremist views and do not represent the values of New Zealand. We utterly reject their ideology.
A message from the Prime Minister:
“Our thoughts and our prayers are with those who have been impacted today. Christchurch was the home of these victims. For many this may not have been the place they were born. In fact for many New Zealand was their choice. The place they actively came to and committed themselves to. The place they were raising their families. Where they were part of communities who they loved and who loved them, the place that many came to for its safety, a place where they were free to practice their culture and their religion.
For those of you who are watching at home tonight and questioning how it could have happened here - we, New Zealand we were not a target because we are a safe harbour for those who hate. We were not chosen for this act of violence because we condone racism, or because we are an enclave of racism. We were chosen for the very fact that we are none of these things.
But, because we represent diversity, kindness, compassion, a home for those who share our values and a refuge for those who need it. And those values I can assure you will not and cannot be shaken by this attack. We are a proud nation of more than 200 ethnicities, 160 languages and amongst that diversity, we share common values - and one that we place the currency on right now, and tonight, is our compassion and the support for the community directly affected by this tragedy.
And the secondly the strongest possible condemnation of the ideology of the people who did this. You may have chosen us but we utterly condemn and reject you.”

علمنا بحزن عميق بفقدان ٤۹ شخصاً لحياتهم في عمل ارهابي شديد العنف في اثنين من مساجد كرايستشيرش اليوم، وقد أصيب أكثر من ۲۰ شخصاً بجروح خطيرة في مستشفى كرايستشيرش.
إن نيوزيلندا في حالة حزن عميق اثر هذا الهجوم الإرهابي الذي طال جزءً أساسياً من النسيج المجتمعي لبلادنا.
الأشخاص الذين قاموا بهذه الأعمال لديهم آراء متطرفة ولا يمثلون قيم نيوزيلندا. نحن نرفض تماما أيديولوجيتهم.
رسالة من رئيسة الوزراء:
"دعاؤنا وصلواتنا مع أولئك الذين تضرروا اليوم. كانت كرايستشيرش موطناً لهؤلاء الضحايا. قد لا يكون هذا هو المكان الذي وُلدوا فيه. ولكن في الواقع، نيوزيلندا هي اختيار بالنسبة للكثيرين . المكان الذي اختاروا المجيء إليه وإلتزموا بالحياة فيه. المكان الذي كانوا يرعون فيه أسرهم. حيث كانوا جزءًا من المجتمعات التي أحبوها وأحبوهم، المكان الذي جاء إليه الكثيرون من أجل الأمان، المكان الذي تمتعوا فيه بحرية ممارسة طقوسهم الثقافية والدينية.
وللذين يتابعون تطور الأحداث من منازلهم الليلة ويتسائلون كيف يمكن لمثل هذا أن يحدث هنا، في نيوزيلندا.
نحن، نيوزيلندا، لم نكن مستهدفين لأننا ملجأ آمن للكارهين. لم يتم اختيارنا لمثل اعمال العنف هذه لأننا نتغاضى عن العنصرية او لأننا نأوي الأفكار العنصرية. لقد تم اختيارنا لحقيقة اننا لا نمثل ايةً من هذه الأشياء.
ولكن، لأننا نمثل قيم التنوع والتعاطف والرحمة، ولأننا موطن لأولئك الذين يشاركوننا قيمنا و ملجأ لأولئك الذين يحتاجون إليها. يمكنني ان أؤكد لكم، بأن تلك القيم لن تهتز ولا يمكن ان تهتز من جراء هذا الهجوم. نحن أمة فخورة بأن لدينا أكثر من ۲۰۰ عرقٍ و ۱٦۰ لغةٍ وفي وسط هذا التنوع تجمعنا قيم مشتركة، ومن قيمنا التي نعول عليها في الوقت الحالي وفي هذه الليلة هي تعاطفنا ودعمنا للمجتمع الذي تضرر بشكل مباشر بهذه المأساة.
وثانيا، ندين بشدةً و قوة أيديولوجية الأشخاص الذين فعلوا ذلك. ربما تكونوا قد اخترتمونا لكننا ندينكم بشدة ونرفضكم تمامًا".
