Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Wellington on 26–27 July 2023 to hold the annual Australia-New Zealand Leaders Meeting with Prime Minister Hipkins and to mark a year of special anniversaries in the bilateral relationship — the 40th anniversary of Closer Economic Relations, 50th anniversary of the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement and 80th anniversary of reciprocal diplomatic representation.
The visit is the third official bilateral meeting of the two Prime Ministers this year, and Prime Minister Albanese’s first official visit to New Zealand. Following the meeting, the two Prime Ministers issued a Joint Statement and released a Roadmap for the next decade of the bilateral relationship.
