His Excellency Matthew Howell
New Zealand’s High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Tonga
HE Matthew Howell has a background in international development, a long career working in the Pacific, and was most recently the Wellington-based Aotearoa-New Zealand High Commissioner to Tuvalu. He has previously served at the Aotearoa-New Zealand High Commission in Honiara.
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade his work has included multilateral agencies, Pacific bilateral and regional issues, and humanitarian responses. Prior to MFAT he worked across South and South East Asia with multilateral agencies.
