Mō mātou - About us
The New Zealand Embassy in Berlin is the New Zealand Government’s representation to Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Liechtenstein. The Embassy is responsible for strengthening political, trade and economic and people-to-people relations with its accredited countries and pursuing New Zealand’s interests through building and enhancing relationships and cooperation with government, NGOs, business and other stakeholders.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Interns at the New Zealand Embassy have the opportunity to help bring New Zealand’s foreign policy to life and is aimed at graduates who are looking for an introduction into public sector employment. The aim of the internship is to give interns some exposure to all areas of the Embassy’s activities, including administration, political and economic research and analysis, public diplomacy events and consular issues. The role includes working with other New Zealand agencies, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise(external link) and Education New Zealand(external link) who are located at the Embassy.
Six-month Internships
Applicants for this role are expected to have an advanced level of German.
These positions are open to graduates, those in the early stages of their career, or post-graduate students nearing the end of their studies. The programme is open to any applicants who have the right to live and work in Germany, but a connection to New Zealand is an asset.

Visa Requirements
Any prospective applicants must either have European citizenship, or be on an appropriate visa enabling them to live and work in Germany. New Zealanders aged between 18 and 30 can apply for a 12-month working holiday visa for Germany.

Applications should include a covering letter setting out the applicant’s interest in, and suitability for, these internship opportunities, accompanied by a CV. We ask that candidates provide the contact details of two referees, and may be required to provide proof of study (e.g. copy of transcript, degree).

Criminal Record Check
Before commencing work, successful applicants will be required to provide a criminal record as part of our security requirements.
We encourage applicants to apply for these documents when submitting their application. The processing time in Germany for a criminal record check is 2-3 weeks. For New Zealand(external link) it is 20 to 25 working days.
