Mr President,
New Zealand welcomes the delegation of Germany.
We welcome the steps Germany has taken since the last review cycle, including measures to combat racism and right-wing extremism, the expansion of services for combatting gender based violence and introducing draft legislation to reform gender registration.
New Zealand recommends that Germany:
- Adopt a strategy for achieving a more inclusive education system, particularly for the over half of students with special needs who continue to be taught in special schools.
- Consider extending measures for promoting the integration of Ukrainian refugees to those from all other counties, [including the choice of place of residence, immediate access to the work force and schools for children].
- Amend the Basic Law to specifically prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
