The number of Korean tertiary students studying in New Zealand in 2016 increased by 30%. Since November 2016, Korean student visa numbers have seen four consecutive months of growth compare to the same period the year before. This is great news after a period of weaker numbers.
Korea is New Zealand’s fourth largest source of international students. Most Korean students coming to New Zealand attend private tertiary institutions (around 55 percent). School students account for 32 percent, split fairly evenly between secondary and primary.
Korea and New Zealand recently signed the ‘Joint Recognition Statement on the Comparison of Senior Secondary Qualifications’(external link), supporting student mobility between Korea and New Zealand. When deciding on admissions, tertiary institutions in each country can take into account the comparability of the Korean High School Certificate and New Zealand’s National Certificate of Educational Achievement.
