Afghanistan | Between 2014-2017, we provided affordable, reliable solar electricity to an estimated 27,783 people in Bamyan. |
Agriculture Increase economic and food security benefits from agriculture |
Sri Lanka | In 2016 2,745 farmers received dairy farming training which resulted in more than 10,000 household members benefiting from increased incomes, consuming and selling/giving away more milk locally and improved local nutrition. In 2017, we provided dairy extension training to 88 people (44 livestock development instructors and 39 veterinarians). |
Afghanistan | In 2016 1,119 people received training on wheat and potato growing, and 4,500 animals were vaccinated against seasonal diseases. Women’s beekeeping cooperatives were established with 140 women operating 264 hives, and generating an annual income of 8,626AFN (NZ$185). | |
Education Improve knowledge, skills and basic education |
5 countries | During 2016, 12 scholars from the Middle East and Asia completed post-graduate studies in New Zealand. |
Nepal | Funding to the Hillary Himalayan Trust provides education materials to 65 schools, scholarships to up to 150 students and training for teachers at 33 schools, including English language training for 100 teachers. | |
Humanitarian Respond to humanitarian emergencies |
Various | In 2017 we provided humanitarian support for post-conflict stabilisation and refugee support services in Iraq, Syria and Jordan, as well as flood response funding to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. |
Occupied Palestinian Territory | In 2017 we completed demining 130,957m² of priority land over four minefields, and handed the land back to civilian Palestinian landowners. |
