Breakout Session One - Financing Higher Levels of Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency

CEO of Tonga Power Ltd, Robert Matthews, talks about the necessary building blocks to establish Independent Power Producer structures in the Pacific, based on his experience in Tonga.  One of these is the need to have in-house capacity in order to enable foreign investment.  

General Manager of Electric Power Corporation in Samoa, Tologata G.L.T. Tile Lei’a Tuimalealiifano, talks about how to manage and address high levels of intermittent or variable renewable energy penetration.

Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in Fiji, Paul Bayly, outlines the variety of opportunities available to roll out a supply of renewable energy across Fiji, including hydro, solar, wind, biomass and geothermal, in order to meet the goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Head of Office at the European Investment Bank, Adam Bruun, emphasises the role that multilateral development banks can play in encouraging participation from commercial banks to contribute to renewable energy investment.
