New Zealand Ambassador to the Netherlands

Susannah Gordon took up the role of Ambassador to the Netherlands in early 2022.

Susannah has worked in the head office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Wellington for the last five years. In her various head office roles, Susannah has worked on multilateral environment issues, leading New Zealand’s work on oceans and Pacific fisheries negotiations. She has also worked on disarmament issues, and was head of the South Asia Unit. Susannah retains a strong interest also human resources and has worked on people issues for the New Zealand Foreign Service in a number of assignments.

Susannah has led a programme of work to leverage New Zealand’s hosting of APEC in 2021, she has had two shorter assignments as a manager in the Europe Division, and she did an assignment as Consul-General in the New Zealand Consulate in Noumea, New Caledonia. In 2020 she was seconded to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet to work on the strategy and policy for New Zealand’s COVID-19 response.

From 2012 to 2016 Susannah was Deputy Ambassador for New Zealand in Paris. She also served as New Zealand’s Ambassador to UNESCO in this period. Susannah’s earlier postings were in South East Asia, including Malaysia, Timor-Leste and Viet Nam.
