Senior trade officials representing New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore and Viet Nam met in Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau from 13–14 July for the third CPTPP Senior Officials Meeting of 2023, hosted by New Zealand. Mexico participated virtually and Brunei Darussalam did not attend (due to the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday).
Officials discussed the process for the United Kingdom to formally join CPTPP, and accession matters more broadly.
CPTPP members also discussed a range of issues relating to the implementation of the Agreement. There was discussion on the General Review, with Members agreeing that there were areas where the Agreement could be modernised to ensure it remained “gold standard”.
There were separate agenda items on the implementation of the Green Economy and Digital Economy chapters and a discussion on the report from the University of Waikato hosted Indigenous Trade Hui.
The next CPTPP Senior Officials Meeting will take place online on 4 October 2023.
