Women, Peace and Security
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security was a ground-breaking resolution adopted in 2000. In later years, this has been followed by nine complementary UNSC resolutions. Together these resolutions set out four ‘pillars’ of priority issues: prevention of violent conflict; meaningful participation of women at all levels of peace and security governance; the protection of rights for women and girls in fragile, conflict and post-conflict situations; and ensuring women’s engagement and addressing their needs in peacebuilding, relief and recovery.
New Zealand National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security 2015-2019
New Zealand’s National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) explains how New Zealand will implement the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Women, Peace and Security for the period 2015-2019.
The NAP is led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand Police and New Zealand Defence (which includes the Ministry of Defence and the New Zealand Defence Force.)
National Action Plan Implementation Report
The inter-agency Implementation Report examines the progress on New Zealand’s NAP 2015-2019. The report is centred around the four ‘pillars’ of WPS: prevention, participation, protection, and peacebuilding, relief and recovery. It also examines reflections from civil society(external link) on the NAP’s implementation.
